Something game-changing is happening at the 2010 Australian Open tennis tournament. Chinese women are not just breaking into top ranks. Chinese Tennis is cruising to the top of the world.
First, Chinese Li Na performed a giant-killing act by defeating 6th-seeded and former Australian Open champ, Venus Williams, in the semi-finals. The victory catapulted Li to the world’s top ten.
Li and fellow Chinese Zheng Jie reached the Australian Open semifinals – the first time two Chinese women have made the top 4 at a Grand Slam tournament - before falling to defending Australian open champion, Serena Williams, and Belgian Justine Henin, respectively.
So close to an all-Chinese women’s Grand Slam final!
